ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Dar Foto Festival is a hub for visual storytelling that connects Tanzania with the global photography community. Our mission is to create an inclusive and inspiring environment where photography can flourish and bring people from all backgrounds together.
Founded by artist Andrew Munuwa in 2021, the festival began in the living room of his home in South Dar es Salaam. Driven by a passion for photography and a desire to uplift his community, Andrew envisioned a space where local photographers could showcase their work and engage with the global photography scene.
Photography has the unique power to tell compelling stories, spark conversation, and challenge perspectives, fostering connections across cultural divides and inspiring meaningful change. Through the lens, we don't just capture the world; we capture the narratives that shape it.
Since its inception in 2021, Dar Foto Festival has hosted numerous exhibitions and events both locally and internationally, working to build a vibrant photography community, celebrate Tanzanian artists, and support the creative growth of photographers.
At Dar Foto Festival, we believe photography should be accessible to all. By offering a platform for both emerging and established photographers, we ensure that our exhibitions and events are open to diverse audiences, making art an experience for everyone, regardless of background.
Dar Foto Festival is produced by Tanzania Foto Collective Company Limited a creative enterprise dedicated to storytelling through photography, crafting bespoke content that supports the ethical growth and sustainability of photographers. TFC focuses on creating opportunities for photographers to develop their craft while promoting values of integrity, creativity, and social impact. Our goal is to foster a community where artists can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and build a sustainable future for their work.
