Behind the Exhibition

In 2024, WeWorld and its partners launched the Photovoice initiative in Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique, a participatory photography project engaging professional photographers and 30 young women to capture their unique perspectives on conflict, peace, and community resilience. The initiative culminated in a series of photo exhibitions addressing distinct themes. In Tanzania, the exhibition held in Tanga highlighted the pivotal yet undervalued role of women seaweed farmers, using photography to address resource-based tensions with fishermen and advocate for women’s economic recognition. In Kenya, the exhibition held in Kwale challenged entrenched gender norms, portraying women breaking barriers in male-dominated spaces

and emphasizing the power of inclusivity and equity. In Mozambique, the Pemba exhibition focused on women’s struggles for equitable access to services and leadership, illustrating their resilience amid structural inequalities and conflict.
